Determining the weight of livestock without weighing

The live weight of cattle is determined by measuring the body of the animal with a centimeter tape. For this purpose, two measurements are taken: the chest girth behind the shoulder blades (measured with a tape around the body so that it touches the back corner of the shoulder blades and lies under the chest at a distance of 8-10 cm from the elbow) and the oblique length of the body – from the front protrusion of the shoulder – scapular joint to the back protrusion of the ischial tubercle (see Fig.).
